PIONEER HIGH SCHOOL

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Special Education program at Pioneer High School consists of a single Resource Specialist classroom, teacher, and an instructional assistant.  Services to the students range from full time regular education with limited consultation or monitoring to placement in the Resource Specialist Program for up to fifty percent (50%) of the students’ educational day. Assistance is provided in the special education RSP classroom and in the regular classrooms on the Pioneer campus.

There are several goals of the Resource Specialist Program on the Pioneer campus. Those goals include:

  • Meeting the goals and objectives on the students Individualized Educational Plan;
  • Completion of all required courses and credits;
  • Passage of the CaliforniaHigh School Exit Exam;
  • High School graduation;
  • Return to the regular program and high schools of attendance;
  • Transition to work training; and
  • College enrollment

The Resource Specialist teacher works in conjunction with other educational professionals in planning and providing appropriate accommodations within the regular educational environment and to promote success within the regular classroom setting. Each student’s placement and program is individually determined by the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team, made up of teachers and professionals knowledgeable about the student.

The Pioneer Resource specialist Program is operated on the alternative education calendar for all students at PioneerHigh School. This alternative schedule allows for frequent reporting of grades and credits and allows students the opportunity to make-up credits towards meeting graduation requirements and allows for frequent programs changes dictated by the students’ transcripts. Students are allowed to participate in outside activities and the Regional Occupation Program.

Student discipline is meted out in the same manner as for students attending the regular education program. Students who have special behavioral needs are disciplined in the manner determined by their IEP.
