Algebra 1A--Course Description:

 

A one-year course covering the topics usually found in the first semester of Algebra 1 at the high school level.  Students successfully passing Algebra 1A will proceed into Algebra 1B their next year.   Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B together will count as two years of mathematics towards the three-year requirement for graduation, but will count as one year towards the required two years of advanced mathematics necessary for graduation.

           80% -   89%   B                                              60%    Tests/Quizzes

           70% -   79%   C                                             10%    Participation

           60% -   69%   D                                           

           < 60%             F

 

CLASSWORK (30%):

  • Each assignment is worth 10 points.
  • Must be neat, legible, formatted correctly and with proper heading (Name, Date, Period # and Assignment in upper right-hand corner of paper.)  Three points will be deducted if the above is not met.
  • In order to get credit for assignments, instructions must be followed.  This includes showing ALL steps as illustrated and instructed.

 

TESTS/QUIZZES (60%):

  • Test will be given on a regular basis with prior notice.
  • Pop quizzes will be given on a regular basis.

 

PARTICIPATION (10%):

  • Present– Must be present to earn 10 points each day.
  • Punctual – Be on time.
  • Productive– Being on-task (daily review, assignment) throughout the period.
  • Pro-active – Listen, answer, question and volunteer.
  • Pleasant– Appropriate language and behavior.

 

ATTENDANCE:

  • It is critical for you to be in class in order to be successful.
  • Students with excused absences are responsible, upon their return, to check “The Binder” to see what has been missed (both the Daily Review and the Classwork—and get it from the teacher.
