Course Description

This 1 year course is intended to meet the state requirement for life sciences.  The course is designed to include the state standards for biology as adopted by our school district.  There is an overall theme of biological responsibility toward our environment and ourselves.  A study of the local area is utilized whenever applicable.

 

Performance Objectives

The student will be able to work in a lab setting cooperatively as well as be able to work independently.  The student must be able to demonstrate through classroom participation, written work, and tests, a basic understanding of the main topics in biology which are ecology, the cell, genetics, human physiology, evolution, and microbiology.

Readings from “Science World”, a science update magazine.

Various workbooks as assigned

Standards for Grading

Credit is based on 12 hours of productive work to equal 1 credit. A student will earn 10 credits to complete the course.  The following grade percentages will be utilized: A= 100-90%  B=89-80%  C=79-70% D=69-60%  F=59% or lower.

 

Homework Policy

Class time will be provided for all class assignments. For each hour of productive class time a student may earn accelerated credit by working at home an additional hour to complete the course ahead of schedule.
