COURSE DESCRIPTION   Course Title:  Algebra 1a/1b School: Pioneer Continuation High School Length of Course:  2 years Teacher   Janice Steinbergs Teacher Contact time: 2:05-3:05   Course Description This 2 year course is intended to meet the state requirement for Algebra I.  The course is designed to focus on the key topics of Algebra including order of operations, number sense, problem solving and equations, graphing, ratios, proportions, factoring, functions, and inequalities.  The course will provide a balance between essential skills, concepts, and problem solving in all state mandated objective areas.   Performance Objectives The student will be able to work independently in a classroom setting and must demonstrate through class work and tests a basic understanding of Algebra 1a/1b concepts.   Required Reading/Activity Algebra 1, Expressions, Equations, and Applications  Author: Paul A. Forester Accelerated Math   Renaissance Learning Systems   Standards for Grading Credit is based on  12 hours of productive work to equal 1 credit. A student will earn 20 credits to complete the Algebra curriculum with the following grade percentages  A= 100-90% B=89-80%  C=79-70%  D=69-60% F=59% or lower.   Homework Policy Class time will be provided for all class assignments. For each hour of productive class time a student may earn accelerated credit by working at home an additional hour to complete the course ahead of schedule.
